About Us


productOps started in 2008 as a software development consulting firm and we have built several large cloud-based platforms for companies like Ithaka (JStor), California Community Colleges (Nova), United Technology Aerospace (large data platform), Alcatel-Lucent (API Platform for Telcos) etc. We were at 50 people around the time Covid hit, and we are closer to 30 now and are narrowing our focus to custom data platforms. The primary tone that we provide to clients centers around data driven decision making and many of us are seasoned business consultants along with a great mix of software developers and designers. We don't build software simply for technology sake, but leverage technology to help businesses make better decisions and reach their goals. Rather than simply searching for data scientists or data engineers, we want people that can demonstrate solid presentation/relationship building skills with clients and have a deep understanding of business and the metrics that support deeper insights about how a business runs. A good friend suggested we consider hiring people from the Economics field, since they would likely look through the business lens first. So here we are looking for a business analyst. 


What you will do


You will serve as a strategic partner working alongside our client solutions team to uncover unique challenges that our clients face. You will ask our clients thoughtful questions to gain a deep understanding of their business so as to make recommendations and then evaluate return on investment of those recommendations.  Example deliverables could be business cases, case studies, landscape diagrams (and leading the interactive research and discovery with the client team), ability to frame problems and solutions, etc. You will use a perspective rich in data science, operations research, customer insights, statistics and economics. The end goal is to help the client manager and solutions architect create the best solution that could enable our client’s business to be more efficient, productive, profitable, secure, high functioning, etc.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Undergraduate and/or master’s degree
  • Preference for 2-5 years of direct job experience as a consultant, analyst etc.
  • Demonstrable ability to read public companies' financial statements
  • Detail oriented, dependable and good questioner
  • Well organized and able to document one's findings
  • Ability to think differently
  • Leadership experience in a work setting and/or through extracurricular activities
  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills (work sample preferred)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and people at all levels in an organization
  • Confident working directly with a client, often C-suite executives
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively
  • Able to travel (to clients in the future)
